Shiatsu is a traditional Japanese massage therapy, which developed from ancient Chinese and Indian medicine. Although helpful with many conditions, shiatsu is not only a treatment for symptoms of poor health. It is also highly recommended for when you are feeling well to maintain this state and so prevent illness. Many people have sessions simply because they enjoy the feeling of the deep relaxation and flexibility it produces.

Treating the whole body, shiatsu massage uses gentle manipulation, stretching and pressure techniques to relax and increase circulation and flexibility. When this tension is released the natural healing energies (called chi in Chinese), in your body can flow freeing stiffness and reducing pain. This in turn, will allow your mind to become calm, peaceful and more positive.

All treatments are given fully clothed in a warm peaceful environment on a comfortably padded futon mat.. Regular treatments last for approximately one hour with an extra half an hour consultation with the initial session. The consultation is based on oriental diagnostic methods and builds up a detailed picture of all aspects of your life that may be relevant to the treatment, for example, diet, posture and injuries, emotional states, stress levels etc. This ensures that the treatment is specifically tailored to suit your needs with the aim of helping you to help yourself. The session may include recommendations such as yoga stretches, meditation techniques, exercise and dietary advice.
